Hiking

It's amusing, as part of my work for Blogger I've been learning about what it takes to make a good blog; lots of posts, lots of linking, lots of pictures, lots of communicating with comments, etc... and other than the pictures, I'm pretty far behind on all of them. Anyhoo, here's my (rather late) update for January:

On the whole, most of it was same as usual - work, quiz on Wednesdays, miscellaneous on weekends including some guitar playing, some coding, etc... Both my housemates were away for a week at the national computer science school (NCSS), if you're a coding student I'd recommend checking it out. So there's a link, time for pictures:
Probably the most interesting thing I did was a weekend hiking trip up to Mt. Kosciusko, the highest peak in Australia! The image above is from some of the rocks near the top - you can probably tell it was the middle of summer, so not much snow up there.
Recently (I think a year or so ago) the area was hit by some bush-fires, their effect is still really visible in the area leaving an interesting and spooky feel, with leaf-less parts of the forest. The whole area though was really sedate and relaxed, and with cool but sunny weather it was great for the 10hr or so of hiking over the weekend. And of course, the scenery inside the denser parts of the woods was pretty too, plus I was hiking with people who knew much more about the native vegetation than me, so I learnt a lot:

Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of the herd of Kangaroos living around the lodge I was staying at (including mother with joey in pouch) nor of the Jazz festival on at Thredbo that weekend (meaning the valley was occasionally filled with loud electric bass echoing off the mountains), but the rest of my small album can be found at https://picasaweb.google.com/padsterpat/Hiking?authkey=Gv1sRgCJO4t_veoZrLygE&feat=directlink

As for february? Not much, I might post another summary in early March. But needless to say, last weekend was quite enjoyable, with a friend deciding to dig up their entire floor to renovate, with the help of myself and a few others to paint a room and attack their floorboards, moving a tonne or two of dirt from their floor into a truck outside :) Quite enjoyable, though I'm still feeling the effects two days after...
